Guaranteed Giggles!

By Andrea, Maricopa County Library District

Bob Shea has written many deliciously funny picture books like “Dinosaur vs. Bedtime”, “The Scariest Book Ever” and “Ballet Cat.” If you’ve already gobbled up this collection of books, and are hungry for more books that are silly, clever, and sometimes heartwarming, here are a few recommendations from other authors that are guaranteed to make you laugh out loud!

“Echo” by Adam Rex

Junior refuses to be friends with anyone who doesn’t acknowledge that he is right about everything all the time. That’s why he and Echo are so tight. But Junior soon learns that a friend who agrees with everything you say may not be the most fun or most interesting kind of friend!

“How to Count to One (And don’t even THINK about bigger numbers!)” by Caspar Salmon, illustrated by Matt Hunt

There are lots of fun things to count in this book, but there is just one rule you must follow. You must ONLY ever count to ONE. Think you can follow the rules? The funny illustrations in the book may tempt you to break the rules and count to a bigger number than one (but maybe you’d better not!). Get ready for laughs as you outsmart the author in this silly book!

“I Can Be Anything” by Shinsuke Yoshitake

A little girl eagerly demonstrates her talent for impersonation and insists her mom guess what item or emotion she is portraying. As you turn pages to learn the correct answers, the silly illustrations will make you laugh out loud, especially Natsumi imitating a bulldozer and her mom’s overcooked broccoli!
