Kids and grown-ups alike are invited to share their favorite carnival-inspired flavors for a chance to see their concept in the grocer’s donut cases this summer

What:

Vivid fluorescent lights, childlike squeals of delight, and an unmistakable aroma of sunshine, machine oil, and sweet, sticky indulgences. These are sights, sounds, and smells of a fun-filled carnival.

From savory classics like funnel cake and corn dogs to sweet confections like cotton candy and caramel apples, mouthwatering treats are everywhere you turn. (The wackier and wilder the carnival fare is, the longer the line seems to be!)

Indeed, there’s nothing quite like the food you can find at the carnival. Unless it’s reimagined as a donut, of course.

Now Arizonans can conjure some carnival-inspired magic of their own with Bashas’ 7th annual Donut Flavor Craze contest. Two lucky winners (one kid and one grown-up) will get their carnival-inspired concoctions featured in the grocer’s donut cases this summer, earning them Bashas’ Donut Ambassador titles in 2022.

Now through May 14, Arizonans are invited to submit their favorite carnival-inspired donut flavor.  Whether it’s sweet, savory, a little bit of both, or something else entirely, kids ages 8-17 and grown-ups ages 18+ are invited to share a 100-word summary of their best carnival-themed donut flavor, including the proposed name, key ingredients, and donut description, at: bashas.com/donut-flavor-craze/

Each winner will receive $500 worth of prizes including a Bashas’ gift card, family-fun activities and baking/cooking gadgets, and one dozen donuts every month for a year. The two winning donut flavors will also be available for purchase in Bashas’ donut cases across Arizona for a limited time this summer, joining the whopping 59 varieties already offered in the bakery.

How:

Now through May 14, Arizona entrants are invited to submit their favorite carnival donut flavor. From sweet to savory and everything in-between, creativity is encouraged! Kids ages 8-17 and grown-ups ages 18+ are invited to share a 100-word summary of their best carnival-themed donut idea, including the proposed name, key ingredients, and donut description, at: bashas.com/flavorcraze

When:

Submissions will be accepted now until 11:59 p.m. MST on May 14, 2022. A panel of celebrity judges will select 10 finalists (five kids and five grown-ups) by May 19, followed by two winning donuts (one kid, one grown-up) on May 31, just in time for National Donut Day on Friday, June 3. The winning donuts will be featured in Bashas’ bakery cases across the state during the month of June, joining the grocer’s other made-from-scratch treats, including donuts, fritters, croissants, Danishes, brownies, frosted cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and more.

Prizes:

In addition to having their winning donuts featured in Bashas’ bakery departments across Arizona, the two winners (one kid and one grown-up) will be named Official Bashas’ Donut Ambassadors for 2022 and receive $500 worth of prizes including a Bashas’ gift card, family-fun activities and baking/cooking gadgets, and one dozen donuts every month for a year. Two runner-ups (one kid and one grown-up) will each receive a $50 Bashas’ gift card. Six honorable mentions (three kids and three grown-ups) will each receive a $20 Bashas’ gift card.
