National Grandparents Day is Sun., Sept. 12, established in 1978 by proclamation from former President Jimmy Carter. Grandparents Day is a day set aside in homage of grandparents. The Chandler Senior Center, located at 202 E. Boston St., has planned a special celebration on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon to honor grandparents.

“Our inaugural Chandler Senior Center Grandparents Day Celebration is a great way for multiple generations to connect and recognize the role grandparents play in their lives,” said Ariana Moreno, Recreation Leader III and event organizer. “We look forward to seeing families spend time together while also introducing grandparents to the exciting amenities at the Senior Center.”

During the celebration, grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy a variety of memory-making activities including:

  • Musical Bingo
  • Art Canvases hosted by As You Wish Pottery
  • Magic Show presented by Funny Magic For Kids
  • Buttons and Books hosted by Chandler Public Library
  • Arts and Crafts
