Name: Armando Castro

Profession: Monster Jam Driver

Age: 26

What do you do for a living?

I am a competitor for Monster Jam.

What type of training do you need to do your job?

We go to Monster Jam University to learn how to operate one of these 12,000 pound Monster Jam trucks. We also go through vigorous training including strength training.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite thing about my job is the travel. I have always wanted to get into a profession that lets me do what I love but also travel and see the world. Another is getting to meet all of the Monster Jam fans around the world and inspire the next generation of drivers.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

It’s going to sounds cliché, but I actually wished and grew up wanting to be a Monster Jam driver. I knew what I wanted to do when I saw Monster Jam for the very first time at the age of 6.

What advice would you give to a kid who wants to have a similar career?

Never give up! It may sound commonplace but really go and chase that dream because you’re the only one that can make your dream come true. Work hard, never take no for an answer, let that fuel your fire. I didn’t have a motorsports background, and I made it. If you’re passionate for it, you’ll make it happen no matter the odds against you.

One fun fact NOT about your job?

One cool fact about me is that I love to collect classic cars. I am very passionate about classic cars especially Dodge/Plymouth. I’m a Mopar head myself but really love any classic car. I love the artwork of classic cars, the thought behind them, and the functions of some of them. They really don’t make them like they used to.
